Paper Mill’s production of ‘West Side Story’ is sheer perfection on stage

The only thing wrong with “West Side Story” at Paper Mill Playhouse is that it ends on June 26. It’s the first time its been done here in 25 years so grab it while you can.

Helmed by Producing Artistic Director Mark Hoebee, the timing couldn’t be better for the theater (just finishing its 78 season) that recently was awarded the Regional Theatre Tony award. It also sent both “Newsies” and “Honeymoon in Vegas” to Broadway and will host the American premiere of “Bodyguard” next season. It’s firing on all cylinders with no end in sight.

Sondheim turns 85 today, celebrate with Schwartz

Happy birthday, Stephen Sondheim, who is 85 today. One way to celebrate this musician’s life and work is to tune in to Jonathan Schwartz’s radio show now (noon-4 p.m., March 22) on WNYC 93.9 FM or online here.  (If you missed it live this afternoon, it will be repeated at 8 tonight.)

So far, you’ve missed Sinatra singing “Send in the Clowns,” the “Sweeney Todd” suite,  Hermione Gingold singing “Liaisons” and now the title song from “Bounce” (which actually had a couple of different titles).
