Screening of ‘Roxanne’ launches free events at Two River Theater

One of my Top 10 favorite plays — “Cyrano de Bergerac” —   opens the Two River Theater Company’s 26th season beginning next month.

But the pre-play festivities begin much earlier in Red Bank, NJ. Tonight, as a matter of fact, with a free screening of the film “Roxanne,” an 1987 adaptation of the classic 1897 play by Edmond Rostand .

More than a dozen movies have been based on the the Savinien de Cyrano de Bergerac, a  French novelist, playwright, epistolarian and duelist.

The romantic comedy stars  Steve Martin as  C.D.  Bales, who is in love with the beautiful Roxanne, played by Daryl Hannah , who is in love with the handsome Chris, played by  Rick Rossovich.

The NYTimes called it a “thoroughly charming performance,.
