The just-opened Broadway musical “Anastasia” and the rapturously received revival of Hello, Dolly! are the top nominees of the 2017 Outer Critics Circle Awards. Both Broadway and Off-Broadway productions are eligible.

“Anastasia” earned 13 nominations while “Hello, Dolly!” received 10, including –duh — nods for leading players Bette Midler and David Hyde Pierce, plus Kate Baldwin, and Gavin Creel.

Also showing well are “Come From Away” and the now-closed Atlantic Theatre Company’s  “The Band’s Visit,” which tied with seven nomination.  Paula Vogel‘s Broadway debut drama “Indecent” and Dan Sullivan‘s revival of Lillian Hellman‘s biting “The Little Foxes” each earned six nods.

The Outer Critics Circle folks today revealed their nominees of best of the best on Broadway and off for the 2014-’15 season. Let’s just say “Something Rotten” has come up smelling likes roses with 12 nods … and it hasn’t even opened yet!!  (It opens Wednesday.)

Other high achievers include the revival of “On the Twentieth Century,” which earned nine nominations; the musical “An American in Paris” with eight, and the seemingly ubiquitous “Wolf Hall,” the London import nominated for seven awards (based on a book series and showing each Sunday night on PBS’ current “Masterpiece” series. I like the Tudors, but this is getting to be a bit much).

Winners will be announced May 21 at Sardi’s. Where else?
