‘Hamilton” gets a record 16 Tony nominations

The coveted Tony Award.
The coveted Tony Award.

The biggest “duh” of the day: “Hamilton” has been nominated for 16 Tony Awards, the most in Broadway history. Like, is anybody really surprised by that?!

Good for them. Good for the show’s creator Lin-Manuel Miranda, who already has won has won the Pulitzer Prize for drama and a MacArthur Foundation genius grant. There is no doubt he will be adding a few more Tonys to that collection.

It’s not often a Broadway show’s media coverage includes phrases like “groundbreaking,”  “expand(s) the range of both pop and Broadway music,” “daring pairing of street culture with America’s founding narrative,” “landmark American musical,”

The show is already the biggest success Broadway has seen in years and was nominated in acting, writing, directing, design.  Some of its actors will compete with each other.
