Sondheim turns 85 today, celebrate with Schwartz

Happy birthday, Stephen Sondheim, who is 85 today. One way to celebrate this musician’s life and work is to tune in to Jonathan Schwartz’s radio show now (noon-4 p.m., March 22) on WNYC 93.9 FM or online here.  (If you missed it live this afternoon, it will be repeated at 8 tonight.)

So far, you’ve missed Sinatra singing “Send in the Clowns,” the “Sweeney Todd” suite,  Hermione Gingold singing “Liaisons” and now the title song from “Bounce” (which actually had a couple of different titles).

He is the winner of an Academy Award, eight Tony Awards (more than any other composer) including the Special Tony Award for Lifetime Achievement in the Theatre, eight Grammy Awards, a Pulitzer Prize and the Laurence Olivier Award. Read more here.
